From raw material to value.
One loop — buy a base product, process the material, deliver a value-add product — applied to any physical product that can be processed — ore, grain, timber, recovered and secondary material, construction aggregate, or a commodity of any kind, run online as an inclusive alternative to the conglomerates and platforms that control most value-add supply chains.[1]
Ownership
It starts with owning the physical aggregate outright — the material held in the owner's own name, not a pooled paper claim. Ownership is the thing every later step depends on: you cannot capture the value you add to an asset you do not actually own.
Value
Processing turns a base input into a higher-value output. The example here is mine tailings, because the market for it is real and well documented — but the same holds for any physical product that can be processed — ore, grain, timber, recovered and secondary material, construction aggregate, or a commodity of any kind.[2] The scale is concrete:
These figures are from one material. Grain, timber, recovered metal, construction aggregate and other commodities each have their own established processing and resale markets.
Sell
The processed material sells into established business-to-business markets for raw and secondary materials — the same portals the incumbents use. A generation of B2B marketplaces now lists raw materials, ores and commodities for direct trade,[7] alongside large portals such as Alibaba and the exchanges that already carry listings.[8] An owner who holds and processes a physical aggregate has somewhere to sell the result.
What it disintermediates
SharedMercantile's move is disintermediation[9] — letting the owner capture the value across the loop rather than passing it through a chain. The model was filed as a patent in 2009.[10]
